Biography

Jamie Kunselman (b. 1993) has a BM in Composition and Percussion and a BME from Baldwin Wallace University. He is currently attending Indiana University for his DM in Composition, having earned his MM in Composition from IU in 2018. Jamie has studied with Sven-David Sandström, Aaron Travers, Claude Baker, Don Freund, and Clint Needham.

His composing includes both chamber and large ensemble works that have been performed on New Music Concerts, at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Baldwin Wallace University, Indiana University, Colorado College, Cleveland State University by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, and in Newport Beach, CA by Choral Arts Initiative.

Jamie has been active in many different instrumental and choral chamber ensembles, including IU’s NOTUS Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, and has performed in Heinz Hall with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, in the Kennedy Center, and with the Cleveland Orchestra. Jamie co-founded the Defiance Duo with Kia Frank. The duo works to expand the repertoire for soprano and marimba and encourages young musicians to create their own career path. 

In addition to composing, he recently coauthored a novel with Philip Brown and enjoys rock climbing, chess, puzzles, and cats.
